Any room I show up in, my Marissa-ness will radiate, I am welcome and supposed to be there.

I am at the point in my blackness and healing where I have learned to say no, learned to speak and when to speak but also how to harness my quiet and to be undeterred by others' values of me.  I also am at the place where I am focused on my community, because society has shown me that others even those at the margins will never put us first.

"We have a duty to be responsible "to" people and not "for" people.  Within our community, we must learn to talk with people and not at them so they can use the tools and resources to be active and/or pass the baton to lead us forward"

"Every human on this planet would not be here if a Black woman did not first give them permission.  They need our permission, we don't need theirs!"

I will speak about my experiences, my ups, and my downs because it is my story.  There is nothing you or anyone else can do or say to change my experience.  I am who I am and the road traveled has not been easy.  I am proud to be a strong black woman that rose to the top despite the obstacles I have had to face.  My story is not done, but it is still being written.
